Abuse doesn't make a dog a killer
Post Body

I know people who work day in and day out with dogs. Some abused dogs are VERY fear reactive. The bark and snap, and may, under extreme duress, bite (and immediately release.) These dogs are all terrified, and once they are shown consistent gentleness, they gradually stop or at least significantly lessen the fear aggression.

And some dogs that are abused don't react with aggression- this friend rescued a large dog that had been hideously abused, and when approached by someone too quickly, he would cower and urinate from stress.

I have never heard of any of these dogs suddenly mauling their owner or anyone else. Abuse makes a dog fearful, it doesn't make them indiscriminant killers. Abuse doesn't make a pitbull a killer, pits are born that way, they were created for killing.

Comments

We adopted a stray German Shepard/Husky that was very fear reactive and anxious (I never had a sleepover the entire time we had her) Had to be put in a room when male guests came over, bit (didn’t break skin) the vet tech who woke her up after surgery. She never randomly lunged at people and she got along with our cats (despite huskies being known to have a strong prey drive). My point is pitmommies are full of shit.
