How would one go about advocating for a pit bull ban in their city?

As the title implies, I’m tired of just complaining about them and trying to tell my well-meaning friends all about why pits are dangerous and ban-worthy. I want to take this up with people who have the power to do something about it.
I don’t even know what to Google. Like, “how to get an audience with the mayor or local relevant folks to get them to ban pit bulls.” What do I do? Make a local chapter? Just call up the city offices?
