I am a 45-year-old, married man who's been on-and-off of various r4r's and similar dating sites for a number of years. And, yes, I have had some successes in the past, and some of them really wonderful. But as I'm recently dipping my toe back in, I am just reminded of the frustrations, the exasperation, the many and random discourtesies, and the florid nonsense that inevitably comes with the territory.
I might have thought, though, that a smart, articulate, and attractive woman's time on this site would be like shooting fish in a barrel, and, oh, how hard it must be to stop yourself from shooting these poor, poor fish? But lately, I have the sense that the truth is so few fish are worth the shooting?
In any case, I'm feeling a bit out of sorts myself. And so I will go out on a limb and ask if there are any women who'd be interested in having a drink this weekend or in the near future? I should be clear that I don't mean this as a pick up opportunity nor do I have any ulterior motive or unrealistic expectation. The simple truth is that I think it would be fascinating to sit down with a woman to compare our experiences: successes, disappointments, and expectations. This pursuit is inherently and even intensely private, discreet. I have pretty much kept it all to myself. All of the sudden it seems like an eminently good idea to raise a flag of truce, cross over the line, trade stories of "WTF" moment, and open up to a like minded, non-judgmental stranger on neutral ground. Say, over a glass of wine or a pour of whisky? No hidden agenda, no expectation of a hook-up or even a second "date." It could be revelatory. Anyway, it is a friendly offer from one Washingtonian to another. Let me know?
