Fog cloud. Useless?

I've cast Fog Cloud, thinking it'll make it easier for my team to hide or to prevent ranged attacks or spells, but enemies seem to ignore the cloud. Shadowheart is currently dead within the fog cloud, and I can't use revivify on her because, you know, she's obscured. So, while I ponder waiting 3000 seconds for the cloud to disperse, I'm wondering, doesn't anyone else think fog cloud is a completely useless spell?
