I'm a big fan of RPGs, I've mostly only played big title games and I'm a fan of the Fallout series. My only other RPG experience comes from some Star Wars tabletop (not free flight games, wizards all the way). So I didn't know how sold I would be on this title.
After finishing EA in three days and spending plenty of time mucking about and exploring I have to say I love this game. Combat feels fair, punishes mistakes and ill preparedness, and it rewards creativity. Questing is great, it makes you feel invested in your choices. And the freedom of roleplay elements are very in depth, it actually feels like I'm trying to sell my half-baked idea of luring the troll onto the cracked floor only to break it under their feet to the GM. This brings me to the sausage.
During the quest where you have the option of taking out the three goblin leaders, since I was playing a rouge I opted for the "I'll take them out stealthily" route when talking to Halsin. This was difficult as most of the goblins were still alive at this point. When trying to take out (Myra?) I noticed while scouting the area that the bridge leading to her platform is destructible. Examination reveals it is vulnerable to fire, and bludgeoning. I think to resort to using fire on my bow, but have no sources of fire, and if I light my bow in the next room its gone out by the time I climb to a vantage point. By this point I had not tried throwing objects except items that are clearly throwable, bombs, bottles and such. I look through my inventory for something throwable that might do 1 HP of damage to the bridge support, then I see the sausage in my pack. Now I disagree that throwing a sausage, about 24m, and having a 100% guarantee on not only making contact but dealing 1 HP of damage to wood is plausible. As a GM I would probably have the goblins roll to take notice and then demoralize the character. But I'll be it worked, and it was glorious.
10/10 for an early access game, I can't wait to see the polished end product.
