So everyone seems to love wizards because of all the different spells they can cast but honestly, I feel like Warlocks Hunger of Hadar beats anything the wizard has. The spell is a massive aoe spell that inflicts cold damage, acid damage, blinds enemies and is difficult terrain. You want to make it extra fun? Throw something like grease, fire, insect plague or any other aoe in the middle of it. If the enemy actually gets through you can have your melee kill them the moment they step out of it or just use EB to blast them right back into it. This is the ultimate spell for bosses, crowd control, choke points, or anything else. Yea wizards might be like Swiss army knives with all their different spells, but with the warlock Hunger of Hadar is like a blow torch that just melts all your problems away in one nice spot.
