I just finished my first playthrough of the game and I was going for my most true-to-self choices, being helpful where I could and I was compassionate to the emperor’s struggles. I didn’t romance him or take the special tadpole, but I was compassionate for his history and even the terrible situation where Ansur tried to kill him. But still, after all my ‘kind’ decision making, the second I won’t hand over the stones and tell him I want to free Orpheus… he defects to join the netherbrain?
That feels so unsatisfying, especially since his entire mission the whole game was to destroy the brain so he could remain free. Having to kill him in the final battle (where he had a lot less HP than I expected) just sucked. It felt like a letdown, because I’d hoped that my decision making would have made an impact on his character like it did with other characters. Why couldn’t he trust that we would still take down the brain and fight at our side vs making me turn into an illithid to free Orpheus and let him save the Githyanki?
Anyone else feel like this?
