This is story is 100% fascinating and historically accurate. Police started bad, and stayed bad https://youtu.be/XvMQY_y4qx8. The "thief taker general" who created the OG police force was also the shadowy crime lord who ran nearly all crime in London, often times selling the stolen goods back to the victims after they 'caught' the thieves. The fall-guys were were any thief that wasn't in the organized crime gang ... the rebel, independent thieves. Truth is easily just as weird as fiction
