How to make a distinction from a canon character to the way your RP partner plays it?

Post Body

So, I have been playing with this partner for a while. We have a good dynamic and I usually love her characterisation. The thing is, recently, she started RPing as my favorite character ever in a way I don't think is very close to canon. I love playing with her and I don't want to tell her I don't like it because I believe everyone is entitled to their own representation of a character, but now, I'm scared it will ruin the character for me.

How do you force your mind to make the distinction between the actual character and the way your RP partner plays it?
