My oldest hen (1 of 2 Americaunas) has been losing feathers for the past couple weeksâthe top of her head and a lot of the down around her vent is balding. I immediately thought âmoltingâ and swapped out her standard layer feed with âfeather fixerâ.
Yesterday I came home to 2 green eggs, meaning she laid an egg! Iâve read and have always thought that they stopped laying during a molt because feather production requires so much protein.
Should I be concerned that this might not be molting or is it actually possible to lay during a molt?
