I have 5 younger chickens and it looks like the red tailed hawks have found where they live. I just watched one land in a tree and scope them out, then leave. The chickens rang their sirens, and I was out there, but I have some questions.
How much cover is enough? They have a big bush to hide under and it's up against the coop/run and netting; it seems like it would be hard to swoop with the obstacles? I live on a small mountain ridge, so it's more cramped, not like an open lawn.
There will still be times when they're more in the open. I imagine hawks will be quiet and try to sneak up on them when they can?
Is my only option to keep them in their run to keep them safe?
