what's an *effective* way to learn?
Post Body

I take classes but I feel like that's perhaps not a very effective way to learn. At the studio I go to I've seen guys who are a few classes ahead of me and when I see the way they move they still seem pretty clumsy (so at like Bachata 3 or Bachata 4 level). In my case I'm at Bachata 2 level and I'm finding a number of the moves we learn in class just don't seem to apply when I'm dancing with someone who isn't in the same class.

I could goto clubs of course but it's nerve-wracking as a lead to try to lead a lady through an entire song when we don't really know what we're doing.

I will add that I went to a social with a friend this past weekend and it made such a difference. I could make all the mistakes I wanted without having to worry about anything which was incredibly liberating. But I'm sure others will have some more tips, hopefully.
