Went to my first social tonight and loved it! Thanks for the advice!
Post Body

Not long ago, I made a post asking about how to approach socials as a single man, so as to not come across as creepy and tonight I went to my first social and had a fantastic time! I followed the advice of going to both the lessons beforehand (salsa and bachata) to sort of break the ice with the followers, and because it's the class I go to weekly I'm starting to see the same faces, so it's much easier to ask for a dance. And having made the decision to learn salsa now as well, I didn't have to sit down between dances.

I was a bit worried that my level wouldn't be high enough for others to enjoy dancing with me, but on the whole I think they had fun, and when we invariably messed up we just laughed it off, no matter who it was I was dancing with which was a big relief. I didn't feel creepy at all, which was great! I made sure to ask different women round the edge of the floor to dance, rather than just focus on the same people, and on the times I didn't dance I just sat and watched the others to see how they danced. One of the women I danced with even said I was a good lead and that I had great style! I felt she did as well so made sure to return the compliment :) So pleased I managed to do it - it's made me realise that lessons are great, but the social stuff is where the fun really begins! :) Can't wait to get back to it!

Yeah that made it so much easier. And also my instructor said one of the biggest mistakes learners make is waiting till they're 'ready' to join a social (like I was doing) when you should get yourself out there and not worry about bad dances, because there will always be people you have good dances with, and others bad, and just getting out there is the biggest step.

Yeah that's fair enough. For me it was definitely the skill aspect. Was worried people wouldn't enjoy dancing with me much. But I can definitely see the other aspects being an issue too.

I hope you can get there!
