Hi all. I have a question about this. I did my test yesterday. When my doctor gave me the requisition paper work, she told me have a breakfast of eggs, bacon and whole wheat toast/bread four hours before the 1 hour glucose test and then fast for four hours prior. She told me no food or water for the four hours prior. The lab was running an hour behind so I hadn’t had water in about 6 hours by the time they took my blood. I was very hydrated the day before, and drank lots in the morning, but I was definitely starting to get a headache and could tell I was getting dehydrated before they did the test. The lab tech who drew my blood made a comment about me probably being hungry and I said yeah and thirsty. She then told me that she doesn’t know why some doctors tell us no water before the test and said I could have continued drinking water that morning, up until I actually had the glucose drink and they just don’t want us to fill up on water beforehand.

Well I see my test results have been updated online and I failed with an 8.5. Just wondering if being dehydrated could have affected the results?

Update for anyone wondering, I just went for the 2 hour test and I passed with flying colours. I made sure to be very well hydrated all week and overnight before it. Glucose levels were 4.6 fasting, 8.5 at the one hour mark, and 5.9 at the two hour mark.

This was my exact experience in rural Alberta a few weeks ago too.
