Facing judgement for my fiance also taking parental leave?

Has anyone else had this happen? I'm just about 15 weeks and my fiance has been talking about after the baby is born with his family and brought up that he would be taking 5 weeks parental leave with me during the beginning and I guess it's kind of controversial? His family is saying the guys he works with will think he's a pu*sy for taking it and told him he would be broke if he took any leave. What gives? Is this common? I'm in canada so after all the leave I want to take at partial pay he's taking the leftover at 55% pay.
