A little freaked out about the new Shelter in Place order

Post Body

I’m currently halfway through my 14 day quarantine, I developed bronchitis and it started getting worse. After an ER visit hubby and I were ordered to stay quarantined for two weeks. Just finished my antibiotics and I’m about back to full health.

Today I’m 17w1d and my city issued a Shelter in Place order aside from groceries, doctors visits, caring for a loved one, and attending work at an essential business. The company I work for is very small, less than 25 people, and is considered essential as we manufacture plastics for civil, medical, political, police, and military helicopters. No position at the company is eligible for remote work unfortunately so I will have to return after my quarantine is over.

I found out yesterday that two of my coworkers are also quarantined, one because he was showing symptoms for COVID-19, the other because his brother tested positive for the virus. My return date to work is the 1st. And with how quickly the virus can spread, and since the building is rather small, I’m worried about catching the virus and bringing it home to my elderly grandma, who lives with us. Obviously I’m concerned for everyone in my home but if my grandma gets sick she might not survive. Hubby and I are young and healthy (ish, I have pre-existing diabetes and a history of respiratory problems) so we have a higher chance of surviving, but if my grandma gets it...I don’t like to think about the possibility of her not surviving.

Hubby and I aren’t eligible to be tested (no fever, etc) but the drive thru tests will start this week and my grandma can be tested bc of her age, and also just to make sure she hasn’t already caught it. Should I send her to stay with my brother and his family? Maybe I should send her to my parents in south Texas, they’ve only had a single case in their city so far and it was caught pretty early. I feel like she stands a better chance somewhere else.

Hubby is already working from home but I’ll have to go back, there’s no getting around it unless they fire me and then I claim unemployment or if the city decides to go ahead and shut us down (not a likely turn of events tbh). Hubby thinks I should quit, but we need the money and I’m really not sure of what to do.

Is anyone else going through something similar?

Edit: We spoke with my parents and grandma and have decided it’s best that she stays with them for a while. I hate this situation but until something changes with my job, or if I can find another job, it’s for the best.
