My crazy fast labor/delivery story
Post Body

Hi all! I'm having trouble sleeping in the hospital so I'm here to tell you how CRAZY my labor and delivery was. Mostly a positive experience!

So I am 28 and just became a first time mom. Baby had IUGR (intrauterine growth restriction) and the plan was to induce me the night of my 36 week 6 days since he was estimated to be 1st percentile at my last ultrasound (est weight of 4lbs 4oz). Got to the hospital at 9 pm, but had to wait til around 10 to go in since there was an emergency c-section going on.

They used the pill to soften my cervix and planned to skip the pitocin unless necessary due to his size. The next day at about 9am I was only 1.5 cm dilated. Kind of disappointed.. but I expected it since the nurse told me it could take DAYS since it was an early induction and my first.

My husband picked up my mom and got back to the hospital around 9am as well right after my OB checked me and put in the 2nd or 3rd pill. I was trying to eat some food when the contractions started getting a lil' spicy and the back labor got very intense. Called the nurse and I asked about the epidural, but she gave me some IV meds in the meantime because they all assumed I wasn't that far along since they had just checked maybe an hour and a half ago. It kept getting worse so I asked if they could check me again and I was 6-7cm!

While they went to order the epidural and roll the cart in, my bowels decided to evacuate themselves on the bed and I was having the urge to push more. I thought no way is this the amount of pain I should be in so quickly and for an extended amount of time. Like i know its supposed to be bad but I cannot breathe right or sit still. The nurse checked again after I told her as she was bringing the cart in and said "Oh we don't have time for the epidural. You are fully dilated now and he is coming!" Panic and fear took over as everyone flooded into the room and I realized I had to give birth without the epidural I fully intended on getting.

After a bit of pushing, vacuum assist, and a little cut from my OB, my baby boy was born at 11:12 am at nearly 5lbs! Apgars of 8 and 9. Every nurse and doctor keeps saying how surprised they were and how virtually unheard of it is to go that fast with your first AND an early induction.

He is currently on the NICU since his blood sugar is a bit low after the first 12 hours. They also discovered that he has hypospadias and will need surgery down the line to correct it. Other than that he's been doing great and is so perfect. I thought he would look more like my husband with black hair and dark brown eyes, yet he came out with my strawberry blonde hair?!

My husband is not an emotional man AT ALL, but he has been SO supportive and teared up a few times. He keeps saying I did so good, he's so proud of me, and our baby looks just like me so he loves him even more 🥰 I'm still a bit in shock, but I am happy he is here and in safe hands. If you are pregnant and reading this right now YOU GOT THIS!!! Good luck 💜
