For context, I am a 35 y/o black woman...
An older black man comes up behind me and says "BABY, YO ASS IS FIIIINE! Can I talk to you?" By the time he walked around me and I looked up, I was just so caught off guard. I was simply shopping for my groceries, minding my business, and I didn't know what else to do, other than to stare at him and say "No, thank you." Thankfully, he left it at that and didn't press, as some men do. He said "alright. You're beautiful though." And kept walking.
Few things wrong with this:
- Don't come up behind me with that shit.
- I'm not your baby.
- Even if I was attracted to black men, this is not the approach I would be attracted to.
- If a white man did the same thing, I'd still be caught off guard by how it was done, and what was said/how it was said.
- He could have prefaced it with, "hello, beautiful", or something of the like, but blurted out the first thing that came to his mind, apparently.
Him being an older man, I would have expected to be approached in a more respectful manner. I guess not🫥
