Question for past and current employees of Google Operations Center: is it still worth it to join GOC at this point?
Post Body

Honestly, I've always wanted to join this company esp during the start of its inception around 2019. I tried my luck several times, but to no avail. Bagsak ako kahit sa Customer Support role, maybe due to lack of experience or confidence during interviews.

Fast forward to today: I've completed and passed all application process for 2 roles. Then, FINALLY landed an offer for one of them, after years of attempts

Pero sa totoo lang, medyo hesitant at nadisappoint ako ng konti during the offer stage and I'm not that 100 percent sure yet to join at this point.

Here are my questions:

  1. Worth it pa ba mag-GOC ngayon, kahit yung increase nung compensation offer nila sa'yo eh di na ganun ka-layo sa most recent compensation mo?

Like, the increase from my current salary to the GOC offer is just at around 10-11%. I'm thinking, maybe I've already reached a certain 'ceiling' for those roles, or they're cost cutting now, na di na nila afford mag-offer ng mas mataas gaya ng dati?

  1. Ano yung differences ng culture ni GOC, as compared with BPO (whether you're a Google vendor or not)? Meron ba? Or same toxicity levels with BPOs?

I'm asking this because, I already came from the BPO industry. I had a chance to transition already into tech/dev role this year as I can't take the BPO culture, stress, and workload anymore. Unfortunately, it turns out that I might need to move out of this tech company where I'm currently employed as well, becuase they're starting to adapt BPO/"pinoy like" culture and practices (long story)

  1. Legit ba talaga na may career progression or opportunities for lateral promotion or movement to another more technical role?

Eto yung main concern ko eh. Sobrang saturated na yata ng HC sa GOC na baka wala na masyadong opportunities, or it would really take a while for you to climb up?

So far, ang naiisip kong cons:

  • walang flexibility since ops ang business model
  • no guarantee for continuation of hybrid setup (I guess?)
  • stricter quality guidelines, IYKWIM(?)
  • pressure of maintaining KPIs
  • walang holiday leave or off lalo na pag christmas holidays(?)
  • I'll be taking gamble of starting over again and hoping that it would turn out better this time, FOR REAL
  • From tech or dev role, babalik nanaman ako sa customer support role and I'll just pray that I'll have better chances with career progression there

Pros that I can think of so far:

  • it's fucking GOOGLE (only a subsidiary though, but still), and I always wanted to be there. Pag napapadaan ako ng WCC, feeling ko parang tinatawag ako ng building na yun lol
  • As a former vendor employee, you already have some familiarities of the general tools, working environment, vibe, etc.
  • Plus, I already know some people there, so making good relations with officemates won't be that much of an concern as compared with my current company
  • Benefits and training opportunities are awesome

Guys, please help me decide. I've tried checking for reviews re this company pero wala talaga masyado. I've already been given a certain deadline to accept the offer.

I'll appreciate any responses: good, bad, realtalk, unpopular opinions. Thanks!
