Good Morning Y'all,

(Just wanted to add that I work with a non profit that prides itself on supporting the black community and it's employees. And yet they haven't given us ANY pandemic pay, we are being paid $1 above minimum wage so $16/hr which is hard to survive on in NYC. Then to add insult to injury, they offered MY EXACT POSITION on indeed starting at $2000 more than they pay me now, AND I have a bachelor's smfh 😒) So I've been at this job for nearly 6 months, I am a residential Counselor working with people 16-21. When I was hired, the supervisor asked if I had a preference for the boys house or girls house and I specified the girls house. Now everything was fine until THIS MONTH. Last month the senior counselor had told me that she would be sending RCs to the boys house, that was all fine and dandy until I realized what she meant was that she was sending ME AND ONLY ME TO THE BOYS HOUSE.(Side note that I get sick of I stay in the heat/hot situations too long.) I figured that this would be a good time to ask for an accommodation, therefore I reached out to HR. Received an email back and called the HR lady 2 days later, basically the response I was given was that because I did NOT request accommodation during the interview or hiring process, then the company doesn't have to provide one. Also according to the HR lady she doesn't know any condition where heat would make it worse and I need to speak with my supervisor. My supervisor got sent an email about the heat in the boys house and if I could work at the girls house until it was fixed. I was told as an RC I need to be able to work at all of the sites and since they were not told they don't have to do anything, but to let him know if I refuse to go there. I felt like he said that and I'd receive consequences/be fired for refusal. Also said in the email is that no one has a permanent residence, but that isn't true either. My biggest issue with this whole situation despite them DENYING me an accommodation after I've said I'd provide documentation, is that I was told by the senior counselor and other staff that seniority means something. Therefore I really do NOT understand why my schedule at the girls house is being switched for 2 employees who got here AFTER me!! 🤬🤬 I just really hate hypocrisy and the fact that not only people but JOBS think they can take advantage of me.
