Is Love from Someone with BPD Genuine or Just Idealization?

Post Body

Hi everyone, I'm co-parenting with my ex-partner who has BPD. I've been told by some people that individuals with BPD are incapable of truly loving someone and that what I felt from him wasn't real love, but rather his idealization of me. Is there any truth to this? I would really appreciate any insights or experiences you can share.

Comments

It can be either. Just like with anyone, look for motives. They are no different in capability of loving. When someone loves you it is selfless. Idealization is selfish.
