Is schema therapy more overwhelming than cognitive therapy ?

3 years of therapy got me nowhere, feeling worse than ever.
My therapist referred me to one of his coworkers to try schema therapy. Im scared because I dont want to talk about a lot of things from my childhood. Every time we tried to go deeper in these stuffs, I got soo depressed that I self harmed/ attempted suicide.
What are your experiences with schema therapy?
