does anyone else fear that people lie to them to protect their feelings?

I feel like it's my biggest issue, I fear that people will tell me what I want to hear and not tell me what they actually feel. It's one of the biggest things with my fp, when he tells me he wants me here, and that he cares about me and wants to be friends with me. I fear that he's only saying that because he knows about my attachment to him and doesn't want to break me by leaving. I fear he's trying to hold me together with lies.
