I have a friend who trains at a gym where the men seem to be the ones getting the acknowledgment and attention from the black belts. My friend is a woman and she trains hard, competes. She has won multiple F2W pro matches, she has won No gi pans in her division and even no gi worlds. Yet her gym never acknowledged her or posts about her. She also works for the gym and helps teach the classes but they just give her a discounted rate, and not let her just train for free. I’m well aware of this hypocrisy because there is a male brown belt that started training at the gym not too long ago, and he’s not even a world champion or won any huge accolades, yet he’s allowed to train there for free, the coaches are always on him and they post about him frequently on their social media. He doesn’t even teach classes or cleans the gym yet is allowed to train for free. It’s fucked up. Is there anything my friend can do in this situation?
