Hello fine Munchkins, of Baldur's Gate. I have come to you to play the song of my people.
Growl. Ooh. Ooh. Ahh. Ahh. Smashy smashy smash.
So, why play a Bardbarian? Isn't mixing any full caster with Bardbarian inherently rediculous. Well, yes. Obviously. However, I would like to show you that it's not quite as rediculous as it seems!
You see:
In BG3, it's inherently advantageous for your player character to be your party face, because some diplo checks can only be done by them.
Barbarian faces get unique advantageous in BG3, in the form of expanded intimidation based Diplo options.
Bards offer the highest noncombat utility of any class in the game, with Jack of all Trades, Expertise, Bardic Inspiration, and a litany of non-combat spells.
Sword Bard offers a meaningful combat power boost, even for Barbs. Bonus AC, Push Power, Repositioning, and "Cleave but Better" are all powerful. With short rest recovery on level 5, that's a ton of extra power.
Barb 7 sucks anyway.
The build requires Barbarian (any) 5 and Sword Bard 5. You can eventually go 6/6, 7/5, or perhaps go 5/5 and pick 2 levels of fighter (song of rest action surge).
You'll end up with a powerful melee combatant with situational combat casting and excellent non-combat utility. It's not quite as combat capable as a fully optimized Barb/Fighter, but it's comparable/stronger then a 1-12 Barb.
What do you think, Baldurians? A beautiful melody, is it not?
Smash.
