Paladin Oaths

So I'm planning a paladin playthrough, and I want him to be a stereotypical, obnoxious self righteous do gooder. Like head-up-his-own-ass good and I'm wondering.. if I kill karlach because ya know, "demon" is that an automatic oathbreaker? Are oaths based on intention or end result or a blend of both?
