Like who I am, what I seek can't really be defined in a list. It's an experience of holding hands in a museum, reading plaques to each other and commenting on how things relate, theorizing why they happened or how, and making obvious wrong guesses as jokes that become internal memes. It's having two people to order new food so we can try each other's, and maybe learning together to cook things from around the world. It's sharing our dorky thoughts, ludicrous observations, and quirky interpretations with someone who loves that we're so deliciously weird together. It's sharing phrases, words, and pronunciations to help each other navigate in countries where we don't speak the language, building that survival speech skill together (and sometimes saying bayrlalaa instead of arigato, and laughing about it). It's developing shorthand around culture shock, depression, ADHD, monachopsis, and whatever other challenges we face internally so that we can communicate and support each other through everything we face, together.
I spent a year in China teaching English just before the pandemic, and it was a rather eye-opening experience. As someone who doesn't like children, it was a weird choice - believe me, you wouldn't be the first to say it.
I've spent the ensuing almost-three years really digging into what I want out of life and how to get there...and while teaching English isn't the vehicle, living abroad and being somewhat untethered is definitely the road. I've set a goal to be living outside the US by 40, so I have about three years to develop and mobilize a skill that will let me live anywhere.
And I'd rather not do it alone.
So, with a strong note of self-aware bemusement, here's a list (buy one get one free!):
Me:
* tall, fluffy, furry, and funny - dad bod with the jokes to match
* introverted unless I'm playing D&D (I DM more than I play)
* Dominant, with Daddy and Master leanings and a moderate sadist streak
* childfree and snipped
* not especially interested in owning a home, at least not in the near-to-mid term
* northlander at heart - don't like heat, and hope to use my wandering life to mitigate it
You:
* female; trans women are women, and while I'm not attracted to masculine traits, 'equipment' isn't a deal-breaker.
* nerdy/geeky; don't need to have Harry Potter memorized or be ready to compare MCU to the comics (I can do neither, and indeed have never read HP or any comics), but an interest in those kinds of things is important, and an enjoyment of conversations about them will help make plane trips easier
* digital nomad, TEFL, or working on becoming that - I'm not sure what my life will look like, so it's flexible, but I don't anticipate spending more than a year in a given place, and I want to see as much as I can before I can't go see things anymore; I need a partner in the financial side.
* affectionate, passionate, submissive (preferably with slave-ish leanings, but that's not required), masochistic
I can, as the song goes, show you the world. Not as a guide, but as a fellow explorer. And you can show me the world right back. Let's see the world through shared eyes.
