Skylar

The electronic whirring woke me from sleep. I was excited to see Master, to ask him what was going on. The door swung open, but it wasn’t Master. 
Sir Milo stood in front of me. “Sir Milo, you’re back so soon!” I exclaimed as I stood from the bed.

“Hello Skylar.” He replied, his tone sounded off. I couldn’t quite place it. 

“Someone was outside and Master put me in here while he searched the mansion.” Sir Milo took a step closer into the light. 

“I know dear.” A sinister smile swept across his face.

“Oh…So Master asked you to come get me?” I stepped back and stumbled on to the bed. 

“Something like that.” He grinned revealing his fangs. He was standing next to the bed, glaring down at me. His eyes had a strange red tint to them. I tried moving away, pressing my body against the wall. I opened my mouth to scream, but Milo’s hand grabbed my throat.

“It was me outside. I was hoping to avoid all of this. Now, we don’t need Zander to come barging in. I don’t have all the time in the world.” Sir Milo reached into his pocket and pulled out a syringe. His grip tightened as I tried to escape. 

He lowered the syringe, pushing it into my skin.The clear liquid in the barrel was forced into my body. 

Sir Milo laughed as my body was overtaken by the drug in the syringe. “Good night pet.”

Zander

I checked the grounds once more after the inside of search was finished. I finally satisfied that no one was on the property. 

It was probably just a rogue I thought to myself as I walked back through the mansion to the portrait. It had been hours since I placed Skylar within the portrait.

I quickly keyed in the code and the door swung open. “It’s okay love, it was just…” Skylar wasn’t there. 

Instead of her lying on the bed I found her collar. I growled anger coursing through my body. At this point there was only one person that it could have been. 

My phone rang in my pocket. I checked the caller ID as it flashed unknown number.

“Where is she?” I growled.

“Zander, relax. She’s safe. For now.” And unfamiliar voice cackled through the receiver. 

My grip tightened on the phone as I tried to keep my voice steady. “What do you want?”

“Nothing much. Just a meeting with you. I’ll send you the address. Come alone. As long as you do that, Skylar will be alive. If not, I may, have to put the sweet pet down.I have eyes watching you.” There was a click as the man hung up on the other end.

 My body sunk down on to the bed. I had let Skylar down, again. This time she was in mortal danger. I was in shock that Milo had double crossed me. A pain of sadness shot through my heart. Anger slowly replaced it. 

My phone beeped alerting me of a new message. The number was still unlisted, but at least now I had an address.

With a heavy sigh I pushed myself off the bed and wondered to my room. I needed to pack and prepare a few things before leaving. 

It was late morning by the time I was ready to leave. I threw my bag into the back of my car. The sun was shining now and the birds were chirping, but my mood did not match my surroundings. I closed the trunk and climbed into the driver’s seat. 

I punched the unfamiliar address into my GPS. Three hours. It was going to take me three hours to hopefully get anywhere near Skylar.
