Zander:

It was near 1am. I took a step outside the club. Smelling the air. Trash, everything here smells like trash. I placed my hat on top my head, straightened my tie, and turned to start my walk home.

After a few moments of walking my hearing picked up the sound of running feet. They were uneven and soft sounding, I almost missed it.

I listened closer trying to pick anything up. I could tell my the breathing it was human, they were coming down the next street. I stood at the corner and waited for them. It was a girl. She looked scared. I could smell blood on her. She turned her head to look behind her and end up running smack dab into me. I grabbed her arms.

“P-p-please sir” she stuttered.

“Where are you coming from human” I growled.

“M-m-madam Charity’s” she was trained a little. She knew not to lie to me. I stood there silently holding her arm while I thought. Madam Charity’s is probably the worse pet shop.

“I’m taking you back.” The little frail human tried to resist but there was no point and she knew it. Eventually she stopped fighting as I guided her back to the shop.

I opened the door to the pet store. Inside there were humans, male and female in cages. A women appeared from the back

“Good evening sir how may I help you?” She asked.

I threw the girl to her feet. “I believe this belongs to you.” The girl landed hard on all fours and didn’t look up. Her back had fresh lashings.

Madam Charity’s eyes narrowed. “Ah yes, I have no idea how she got out I am sorry she disturbed you. Thank you for bringing her back to me.”

“How much is she?” I asked

“Excuse me?” Madam Charity’ was taken aback.

“I said, how much is she?” I growled, frustrated at Madam Charity

“I’m sorry she’s already been sold and is being picked up tomorrow.”

“I’ll triple it.” Madam Charity couldn’t walk away from that deal I knew it. This will be her highest selling pet in years.

She took a moment to process it. “You have a deal. Will you need a collar and leash?”

“Yes” I placed the money on the counter. I took the simple black collar from the counter. This will have to do for now. I knelt down next to my new possession. I managed to get the collar on her.

“Let’s go” I yanked her to her feet and out the door. She stumbled a little. I noticed she was limping. Once out of the sight of the store I stopped walking. My new pet stumbled to the ground and didn’t get up. There’s no way she’s walking all the way to the house. I gently picked her up without saying anything. I looked into her face for the first time. She’s passed out. Most likely from the pain.
