EDIT: For future people who read this, bctransferguide.ca wasn't giving the full picture, so I emailed Rob(CST program head) and asked him directly. He said that CST has a bad track record for transferring to UBC(SFU a bit better) because UBC/SFU CS degrees are heavily Math/Science based, but BCIT is more hands-on, meaning those base courses they require we don't take. He said you can expect a CST diploma to let you skip 1 term of an 8 term UBC degree, 2 at most, while SFU you should be able to get 2, maybe 3 terms. But no, there isn't a complete transfer between the two (as in CST does not transfer for 4 terms of UBC).

I am currently a CST student and loving it so far.

I got a job this summer and have been talking to a senior developer at work about what to do once I finish the diploma. I said I am interested in continuing on my education, but the two full time BTech degrees don't really peak my interest (one seems really game based, the network one I had a roommate go through and it really just was not my cup of tea), and since BCIT is really hands-on I wouldn't mind rounding out that knowledge/experience by ending it with some theory.

He recommended I take a look at if CST can transfer to UBC as the equivalent of the first two years. So far though, I haven't found any more information then "contact UBC" (which is hard as I'm back on Vancouver Island for the summer).

Another reason I guess is I am interested in moving to California for a few years once I graduate, and as much as BCIT is valued well in BC/Canada, on an international level UBC is the name that is known.

My question is, CST grads, do you know of anyone who successfully transferred to UBC after completing the CST diploma(Datacomm specifically)? Is the transfer full or only certain courses transfer?
