I'm looking for information on the set design from the 2013 Ballets Russes adaptation of The Rite of Spring:

The picture I'm interested in is the three alien dudes that appear throughout the last part. The previous versions of that picture – including the original by Nicholas Roerich and some later renditions – made it quite clear that what was depicted was a bunch of skulls on sticks muffled in rags.
The version in question is a huge creative leap from that, as skulls on sticks are nowhere near your primary association, more so illithids from D&D.
I'd be very grateful for any info on who the author is and what pushed him to enhance the original, although the former should be quite enough.
