Can you roll up onto pointe in demi-pointe shoes?

I recently got fitted for my first pair of demi-pointe shoes in hopes to build enough muscle for pointe. My instructor said that it’s safe to roll up onto pointe ONLY if I’m holding on to the barre, but not in center. I’d never done it before until earlier today and was able to go up fully on pointe without any pain or discomfort. I have very high arches and I’m reasonably fit. Is this a safe practice to continue, and how long until I’m ready for actual pointe?
