Should you practice holding your split at the end of your training session and not the beginning warm-up?

I saw someone suggest that you should only practice holding your splits after your training session. The idea is that if you hold your splits before you start training (during stretching warm-up), your body isnโ€™t all that warmed up enough to hold splits.

Makes sense to me but Iโ€™d like to hear from other dancers. Anyone else been taught the same or can testify that this is the best time to hold your splits?
