Could Neem oil have caused my gut to flare up?
Post Body

Iā€™ve been using a few drops of neem oil in a tablespoon of coconut oil as part of a new oral healthcare regime. I donā€™t use it every day, but at some point after starting it my gut has started to flare up and all of the worst symptoms Iā€™ve had from the past two years are back in spades.

What started as a gluten allergy developed into a vata-driven gut imbalance which has been hard to get on top of. A case of parasites added to the mix (likely from supermarket fish), but even having got rid of those, and having weeded out all the food I know of which irritate it, in the last couple of weeks it has become really bad.

As background, I almost never eat refined sugar (unless itā€™s in something in small quantities and I donā€™t have a choice), Iā€™m gluten free, I donā€™t eat much dairy, Iā€™ve cut back on red meat, I havenā€™t had any alcohol in six months, and I eat waaay more fruit and veg than I have done at any previous point in my life. I eat khichari three of four days per week, using long grain basmati and not brown rice, and I know I shouldnā€™t be having symptoms this strong with the effort Iā€™m making, so it seems obvious to me that there must be something else in the mix causing that balance.

Symptoms are tightness or what might be a slight swelling of the abdomen (which Iā€™ve had previously when I was eating wheat and drinking alcohol and when I could also actually feel my colon twitch and spasm because it was so unhappy). I also have slight hemorrhoids which are indicative of an irritated colon but also of some blood pressure issues (professional Ayurvedic diagnosis) Given what Iā€™ve researched, I see that neem can irritate vata and given that I know that vata is my principle dosha which is out of balance, it seems to be the most likely candidate. Iā€™ve also been diagnosed as having low digestive fire; Iā€™m male, 5ā€™9ā€ and 133lbs.

My main concern is that, previously, in this kind of situation, Iā€™ve been able to cut out a troublesome food and the symptoms die down within about 48 hours, however, it seems like it is taking much longer for the symptoms to die down from taking this, and I really would like some relief.

So, can anyone recommend a counteracting remedy, ideally something which is tri-doshic, which wonā€™t cause anything else to flare up. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
