I just came back from my third ceremony. It was run by a shaman I know and trust who has participated in >100 ceremonies and was aided by the shaman who trained him, who has done untold amounts of ceremonies. The 2nd shaman prepared the medicine and they gave it to about a dozen other people over two nights, all of whom experienced the full effects. On the 1st night I was given two doses and on the 2nd night I was given three doses in an attempt to get me there, including Syrian Rue which was described by some who took it as "rocket fuel". I purged three times on the 2nd night after holding the medicine for about 90 min after the first dose, 45 min after the 2nd, and 45 min after the 3rd. I experienced mild visual hallucinations similar to mushrooms in the 2nd half of a trip and for a moment when I was purging after the 3rd dose I couldn't tell if I was dreaming or not, but that was it.

I ate breakfast at 9 am on Friday and nothing again until 10 am Saturday, where I had a light vegan meal at my retreat (same as everyone else), then nothing again until Sunday. The week leading up I avoided all prohibited foods (avocados, bananas, caffeine, etc.), I'm on zero medications, and I'm decently experienced with other psychedelics and have always been affected by them. I've also smoked straight DMT before and experienced full effects from that.

My shamans and others assured me that nothing is wrong and if it happens it happens, but I'm clearly disappointed and frustrated. What might be going on with me that would prevent ayahuasca from working? The purge from the 3rd dose was very hard on my body and while I gave my shaman permission to push me, neither of us had any interest in giving me a 4th dose after that.
