So I did Ayuahasca twice this week in the jungles of Iquitos in Peru, it was an amazing experience but also terrifying and I'd love to know if anyone has shared a similar experience.
The shaman was very simple, unpretentious, and didn't speak a lick of English. He came to the lodge I was staying at in the jungle and performed a 1 on 1 ceremony for me, twice. The first ceremony was strong, beautiful, I felt like I was able to stare my strength in the eye and take control, and all that good shit. It was blissful but also really, really, strong, I felt my heart beating heavily throughout, but I was able to handle it. What I did notice from the effects, it seemed to have just reinforced my confidence and strength, instead of guiding me into secrets or the past. I felt like it sort of acted as a steroid for the pineal gland, more than anything, not that that's necessarily bad.
I told the shaman I think I can handle a stronger dose for the second ceremony... and within two hours, I realized that it completely took over my body and I was totally losing it, and my heart was beating FAST and stronger than ever, unrelentless for like 30 minutes. I was totally tripping balls but also genuinely scared that I could fall into cardiac arrest, and I made them well aware, I was shouting and being that I was in a simple lodge in the deep jungle, I was freaked out that a lot could go wrong. No bueno. They say that you just need to focus your breath and relax and yada yada, but I know my body enough to know that it really wasn't in a right state.
Finally after like 25 agonizing minutes the shaman's aid brings me a cup of simple lemon juice, and I chug it like it's life, and maybe 20 minutes after that, all the effects of ayuahasca completely flushed out of my system without a purge... not even light visuals or anything, it totally cleansed my body, I was practically sober after that.
Thankfully the shaman was the real deal, knew his medicines, and was able to heal me when I was ailing. But I never felt more scared of genuinely getting into trouble, my heart still feels shaky and I'm going to western doctors to make sure there's no damage, I've never had a heart problem at all in the past.
Has anyone had any similar experiences, where they could have overdosed on ayuahasca? Is that the normal, that ayuahasca should act as a sort of steroid, or do you think it was just specific to this shaman's plants?
