I have a small town lumberjack competition next weekend and I'm trying to decide what axe to go with. Options are:

  1. Tuatahi China head that I've brought down to probably 4.5 lbs. Approximately 15 degrees with a 25 degree microbevel. Obviously better for splitting the cedar and it shaves alright, but with the microbevel it's not the greatest

  2. Double bit felling axe - thought was with this that I could grind it so one side was good for splitting and sharpen the other side so I could shave with it.

  3. 2-3 lb oxhead that I could put a good edge on. Not the greatest for splitting, but I could probably tune the edge for shaving.

  4. Hewing hatchet. - thought was here that I could shave it down as it has the edge on one side of the blade and make it extra sharp... but not the greatest for splitting

Thoughts?
