Marbles Safety Pocket Axe, No. 2P, with retracting safety guard and folding pick. Stamped on the safety guard: "Marble Arms & Mfg. Co., Gladstone, Mich. U.S.A.... Pat'd 1898". On the axe head, "Marble's...Gladstone... Mich. U.S.A.". Overall length (incl. safety guard) is about 11". Cutting edge is approximately 2 1/4". It weighs 1 1/2 lbs. Blade is solid steel. The handle is made of nickel plated drop forged steel. The nickel plated safety guard retracts into the handle... it works well and has a strong spring-back. The pick can be secured and locked up and down. In the early 1900's, this axe was advertised as a "3-in-1 tool". It can be used as an axe, a hammer(with pick locked down), or as a pick ("indispensable to every mountaineer, prospector, miner or geologist").
I am looking for serious collectors who would be interested in buying this hatchet. Thanks.
