How does one find a Dr. In their local area that specializes in autoimmune disorders?
We’ve seen a couple of rheumatologists and immunologists, but none of them have seemed very aware or educated regarding a modern understanding of autoimmune issues.
Once they get a ‘negative’ on RF factor (a test with low specificity) they shrug their shoulders and dismiss her, despite her symptoms.
The Dr.s to date have done a fair amount of testing, but nothing comes back as a red flag. She does have a handful of numbers that don’t make sense to anyone, but because they can’t put it together they literally just shrug it off.
Her symptoms affect her ability to live her basic daily life.
There has to be some specialists out there that actually deal in autoimmune disorders, but how does one find them? Every time we think we’ve found a person they’re just another traditional fox with very little knowledge in these areas.
Below I’ll paste a few paragraphs from an early post regarding her issues, in case the background helps, but the big question we have is HOW do we FIND a dr. That specializes in autoimmune disorders??
Some info from a previous post:
My wife has been dealing with chronic illness for most of her adult life. We have been seeing quite a few doctors and a lot of testing has been done to rule out certain things, but we're still not getting to the bottom of it.
MCTD has been suggested, we're strongly considering or hoping to rule out Lupus and MS, two diseases that are notoriously hard to diagnose in early stages.. She has many of the common symptoms of both of these diseases in addition to being celiac and having a TON of food triggers (she does AIP, she's done mono diets, elimination diets, etc.).
She is extremely pro-active (teaches chair yoga and stretch). And yet her symptoms keep getting stranger and more debiliatating year over year (a ton of joint and netve pain, muscle weakness, fatigue, brain fog, trigeminal neuralgia, pins and needles, strange shooting pains, etc).
