Smells?

Hi all. Been poking around for awhile and learning. I don’t have a setup but I have several questions about them.
If I were to do this it would be in a spare room in a closet running exhaust out of that.
My wife doesn’t want the whole house to smell.
From what I’ve read a 2x4 tent with a 6” fan and carbon filtration should be good.
Also read the only time it would smell is when you have the tent open.
I just wonder if I confine it to that area am I good?
