Iām trying to learn about auto paint & spot repair. I understand pros may not do spot repair for various reasons.
Itās seems like a lot of the paints sold as ātouch up paintā are not urethane paints. Correct me if Iām wrong, but I think they are lacquers - similar to old nitrocellulose lacquers.
My question is for touching up small areas, can you put 2k clear over these lacquers? The concern is the solvent from the 2k clears could lift the touch up paint? Iām trying to not overcome this with yet another product, I know there are sealers, etcā¦
My understandinng is you prime & spray the basecoat (automotive lacquer), and - the idea is to not left the lacquer cure for too long before spraying the 2k clear. You want it dry - but not cured & it should be ok.
Iām wondering if there are urethane touch up paints sold in small quantities (a few oz) & that may be a better option. What complicates it is sellers of these types of paints arenāt always clear exactly what type of paint they are selling you.
I would like to spray using a small detail spray gun, not rattle can. I believe Dupli Color rattle cans are lacquers & people have successfully used 2k clears over them.
