Post Body

I was spoiled when I learned how to spray was at tech school for auto collision and custom for 3 years getting to use a really nice high dollar down draft spray booth and sata jet guns. Painting at home with my dad hasn't gone as well for me at this point. The spray gun I use at home is an eastwood gun and I can't for the life of me get anything to lay down good with this gun. No matter how much I adjust it doesn't give an even fan. I also know its bad practice to use the same gun for base clear and primer. The compressor set up at home is really nice. 200 gal and very nice moisture removal.

I'm about to do a whole front end swap on my truck and will have to paint it because my GM truck was resprayed with a ford white so I will need to spray them. I also plan to eventually refinish the whole truck. We also have a 56 chevy at home that was recently refinished and my dad wants to redo it because some panels don't really match well. I also know my dad has been trying to get another project truck and is very serious about this type of work being retired now. So I'm thinking for the both of us it would probably be a good investment for at least 1 more spray gun if not 2. The eastwood gun does best for epoxy primer but it does basecoat and clear putrid. We spray pretty much exclusively with PPG paints if that makes any difference. We also really like our metallic basecoats.

I been a cheapskate in the past but I'd be willing to go the 400-500 dollar price point if there's value. No were not making money with these tools but our use case is definitely more than a few times a year. My dad spends his retirement constantly trying to straighten out different panels for that 56 chevy and uses a spray gun at least a few times a month. I also buy second hand a lot to save money but I'm not sure if that's a good or bad idea with spray guns. A secondhand DV1 fits within my budget and I would think if anything were bad with it it would be a replaceable part like a cap/tip but I don't know. I know its typical practice to use a solids and a clear gun vs a primer then base/clear gun, would there be a huge benefit to buying a different gun clear for and a different gun for base?
