Hi, I have had this truck a while, it has never had paint work since new. The last year or so I noticed the hood looking like crap and now noticing the roof has a similar problem, no amount of compound or polish will solve this, I tested it in an inconspicuous area. Local body shop wants to strip and repaint the hood and roof to the tune of thousands. I'm a professional painter by trade, have lots of HVLP experience and equipment, I'd like to do this myself- my question is does it need to be stipped down to bare metal? can I sand lightly and clearcoat? or sand a bit and spray a new color coat and clearcoat? If it was only the hood it wouldn't be such a big deal but the roof is huge and hard to work on. I'm not interested in this being a show car, it has other minor issues all around, it's just a daily driver and 10 years old.
If it can be done can someone also recommend the paint and clearcoat to use?
Thanks
