cold weather 2k?
Post Body

Hello all. I've got a super small carbon fiber parts business that i started this last summer. I've been using 2k spraymax clear coat spray cans as the final coat on the epoxy. Little sanding/buffing/polishing and it comes out really nice. I've got a garage and some sheds but 2k is just SO toxic that i don't feel comfortable spraying it inside without a ton more safety assets than i have. I wear a full suit and have a full face mask and the proper 3m masks.

However it's getting cold here now and i am struggling to come up with a way to do cold weather clear coating. For the epoxy to cure, i had to build a heatbox thats roughly 3x4x3 ft.

I was thinking of maybe heating that box. Turning off the heater(ceramic).

Spray.close box

wait 15 min and respray.

close box.

sprayclose box.

Turn on heater and let it sit for 24 hours before any sanding/polishing.

If i let the paint in the air land on the surfaces of the box before i turn the heater on again. Is it safe to turn on the heater again? Does clearcoat outgas flammable gas or is it just flammable while its aerosol?

2nd question:

If the above method isnt safe. What if i had a warmed can and a warmed piece to be painted in the open air. Spray, wait 15 min, spray, wait 15 min, spray, Then move the pieces to the warmed box for 24 hours to cure? Assuming it doesnt outgas flammable gas, is there anything wrong with basically painting on cold layers and then moving it to a warmed box to cure?
