So, middle of November took it to a chain for 100k mile inspection, (no major concerns at the time). They did oil change (stating it was black and thick), cleaned the spark plugs and told me I need evap canister valve replaced. Tires and everything else looks good. They had my car for almost a week. Got it back, now there is blue tinted smoke from exhaust and engine light on. Take it back in, they say once valve is replaced that should stop also that the oil was overfilled and was âjust burning offâ and recommended it get changed (but they couldnât get part and wouldnât do work without charging full price which I couldnât immediately afford). They also say my brakes are nearly ready to replace and one of my tires is down to 2nd rubber (all this I knew they had missed from first inspection bc I had another mechanic point it out to me before 1st appt with them.
So after 2nd visit virtually nothing was changed, still smoke from exhaust. I found a master mechanic to take a look. He mentions itâs not industry standard to put in same spark plugs. That oil was thick because they let car get cold, and the valve they quoted for repair comes in a set - not an individual piece.
I have been arguing with the auto chain since. Original store is denying fault, any other âsister storesâ will only fix at full price. I feel like my car was made worse by them. It has continued to have smoke from exhaust, will occasionally shudder while idles, sometimes ignition will turn over and catch then immediately die. Check engine light just came on this week and now my none of my steering wheel buttons or blinker/whispers will work.
What could possibly be wrong, should I take to original shop or new, and would I maybe have a claim for damages against original work done? (Not looking for money just to have issues fixed without further expense.)
