Hi all,
I have a 1960 Triumph TR3. Some of the paint on the rear driver's side wing was a little loose/bubbling and I knocked it off accidentally with my pressure washer.
Probably for the best as there clearly was moisture building up behind it. I believe the cause of the bubbling was poor adhesion from the bad repaint the car received in the late 1970s. In any case this car is a driver (I'm reviving it as it was parked since 1980).
What is the best process for me to enact a DIY repair?
Here is what I plan to do, please correct me where I am wrong: 1.) Use angle grinder with a wire wheel to knock off remaining loose paint 2.) Use orbital sander to smooth edges of paint chip area so it blends in (what grit?) 3.) wet sand working area until gloss is gone with 800 grit sandpaper 4.) tape off all but the wing area and spray with a filling sandable primer 5.) Sand/smooth primer (how?) 6.) Paint with a single-stage aerosol can of closely matching paint (how many coats and do I sand in between coats?) 7.) Wet sand area when cured (what grit?) 8.) Buff/polish with rotary buffer
Any tips are appreciated!
