Hi there; my name is Isaac. 24, auDHD, he/they pronouns 💚
Work is something I have struggled with… well, always. I got my first job at fifteen, and since then I have never consistently kept the same job for more than a year. Part of that was out of my control, as my family moved quite a lot. But the rest of it was on me. I’ve never been fired; I have always quit.
And it’s not because I don’t value or believe in hard work. I’m a very hard working individual in ways that can be very productive. The problem is that I just cannot seem to thrive in the work environments that are available to me. I get overstimulated, or burnt out, or lose interest, or get so frustrated with all the bullsh*t that goes on at workplaces. Usually, all of the above. I’ll stick things out as long as I can, but it gets to a point where I’m so burnt out that I stop taking care of myself entirely, and then it becomes dangerous.
So I quit, and I’m able to physically take care of myself. But then obviously, I can’t afford anything. Bills, food, what have you. Lovely adult capitalism experience.
I also no longer have a car, so I am limited to a very small number of workplaces within walking distance, mainly fast food. Which, as I’m sure you know, is not the greatest environment for an autistic person.
I’ve seen random online jobs advertised now and then, but they always seem a little fishy or like… too good to be true? I don’t generally trust them. And I have no idea how to tell what is or isn’t legitimate.
I was wondering if any of you could give some insight or advice on how to find online/remote work that is real, and worth pursuing. I know there’s some data entry stuff, but I am not mathematically inclined whatsoever; numbers mean nothing to my brain. I’m much more of a creative, imaginative person.
My special interests are plants, writing, nature, animals, and reading. I do have some notable skill in customer service and reception-type work.
Edit to add that when I say ‘online,’ I mean any sort of work from home job. Not strictly online/computer oriented only.
