Have been with my fiance 8 months she has 2 children 6 and 3. The six yo is what, from my readings on here what would be considered AuDhd. He was recently prescribed a stimulant recently, has calmed down alot. At first the rebound effect was cuasing evenimg meltdowns worse than before mess. They have subsided some. He was in a " focus group" for special needs. He didn't ever participate in a academics while attending this program. He has started the new school year repeating Kindergarten. The focus group lost funding he's in some sort of special Ed class. So my fiance was basically just letting the school handle his disability. She is reluctant to reach out for help with him. She is a good mother but is irrationally scared that by getting help, it could lead to her loosing her kid. I find myself now helping her care for him. It is very difficult. Their father died from vivid, he was an alcoholic, who never was there. I'm trying to get this boy all the care in the world. He is sooosmart and he talks normal. Anyway. Even though he has been diagnosed by school I guess. It seems she is waiting on official diagnosis. I do know this after much time in this father role., the child is severely disabled and should be receiving help from the state to assist with his care. He was turned down for disability once, because his mother took little time on providing documentation, she just has alot of stress and handles it and does what she can. I am here to help and to try to bring order to chaos. I'm no superman knight in armor etc.. But I'm a willing 37 year old man who has been placed here to father these boys and teach them and be here. Please community, give me advice, what to expect, how to properly file for disability, coping strarergies, anything. I work 10hours a day 6 days a week. Been wanting to do this for awhile. Hope I didn't ramble. Was time to reach out this amazing collective. Thank you
