This kid has not slept since 2am.
Post Body

Melatonin is a joke.

He is up, clapping and verbally stimming and literally all my patience is gone.

Heā€™s had meltdowns for 2 days straight. Should I give up and just take him out of the room? Iā€™m just lying here seething but cannot sleep.

Iā€™m so so over this.

All parents of autistic children should be given Valium, no questions asked. Thatā€™s what I need. Valium.

And by the end of this, now he is foot stimming, into my side.

Edit:

Thank you everyone for all the support and suggestions. Seriously this community just keeps me going as I donā€™t feel so alone in this. Iā€™ve read all the comments and will try to answer some common questions here.

A few answers to some common questions:

  • the Valium was more for me lol -seriously I swear benzos would make me a better parent
  • our boy is 3yo
  • on 2mg melatonin
  • we co-sleep (because itā€™s the only way he will sleep)
  • his pre bedtime activities involve tv until the wifi ā€œmagically stops because thereā€™s no internet after 8pmā€ -from there he usually takes us to bed himself or will run around the living room. Our little one is one of those who donā€™t really hype up or down with or without tv. He kinda just does what he does. Even baths donā€™t calm him.
  • havenā€™t tried clonidine but Iā€™ll ask the GP next time
  • Iā€™m gonna go get some magnesium supplements -we have to do some research first coz he has other genetic conditions that means he canā€™t have some vitamins
  • weā€™ve done genetic screening but it wasnā€™t that comprehensive and once our insurance kicks in we will do so

Thanks again. I wasnā€™t expecting so many responses and honestly itā€™s made this so much easier

My son is 8 and still has this problem. Some weeks it feels like he doesnā€™t need to sleep at all. I get less than 10 hours the entire week.

I got a few things that he can jump and bounce on and chew to help him burn off some energy. Iā€™ve noticed he gets the most energy right before he crashes. Iā€™ll turn everything off and we lay down. If he doesnā€™t fall asleep after an hour I have him jump again.

At least once a month he has one week he hardly needs any sleep and has a lot of energy. Like this past week. Yesterday he went to bed at 12am the night before 6am and 4am the rest of the week. I wonder sometimes how heā€™s even awake still and not tired.

Sometimes we just have to roll with it and get sleep in when we can. Thereā€™s nights I just start my day at 2am lol because I know heā€™s not going to be no matter what.
