Melatonin is a joke.
He is up, clapping and verbally stimming and literally all my patience is gone.
Heās had meltdowns for 2 days straight. Should I give up and just take him out of the room? Iām just lying here seething but cannot sleep.
Iām so so over this.
All parents of autistic children should be given Valium, no questions asked. Thatās what I need. Valium.
And by the end of this, now he is foot stimming, into my side.
Edit:
Thank you everyone for all the support and suggestions. Seriously this community just keeps me going as I donāt feel so alone in this. Iāve read all the comments and will try to answer some common questions here.
A few answers to some common questions:
- the Valium was more for me lol -seriously I swear benzos would make me a better parent
- our boy is 3yo
- on 2mg melatonin
- we co-sleep (because itās the only way he will sleep)
- his pre bedtime activities involve tv until the wifi āmagically stops because thereās no internet after 8pmā -from there he usually takes us to bed himself or will run around the living room. Our little one is one of those who donāt really hype up or down with or without tv. He kinda just does what he does. Even baths donāt calm him.
- havenāt tried clonidine but Iāll ask the GP next time
- Iām gonna go get some magnesium supplements -we have to do some research first coz he has other genetic conditions that means he canāt have some vitamins
- weāve done genetic screening but it wasnāt that comprehensive and once our insurance kicks in we will do so
Thanks again. I wasnāt expecting so many responses and honestly itās made this so much easier
My son is 8 and still has this problem. Some weeks it feels like he doesnāt need to sleep at all. I get less than 10 hours the entire week.
I got a few things that he can jump and bounce on and chew to help him burn off some energy. Iāve noticed he gets the most energy right before he crashes. Iāll turn everything off and we lay down. If he doesnāt fall asleep after an hour I have him jump again.
At least once a month he has one week he hardly needs any sleep and has a lot of energy. Like this past week. Yesterday he went to bed at 12am the night before 6am and 4am the rest of the week. I wonder sometimes how heās even awake still and not tired.
Sometimes we just have to roll with it and get sleep in when we can. Thereās nights I just start my day at 2am lol because I know heās not going to be no matter what.
