I have an 11 year old son who is on the spectrum. He struggled last year going to public school, he would tell us heโs stressed, or scared. He would talk about how confusing the work was and he would just refuse to go. If we made him go he would cry or really withdraw into a nonverbal state. The school finally agreed to have him go a half day with a full day credit, but even that was difficult to get him to attend.
This year we were able to enroll him in a virtual school where he goes a half day four days a week, and one hour on Wednesday. Heโs falling farther and farther behind because the homework is just too overwhelming. The stress and pressure of school is once again too much, to the point the he hurt himself last week with a pencil because he was so overwhelmed.
My wife found a program that will provide funds to help him with homeschooling, however, we need to find a program that will work with him and understand that he needs to go at his own pace. Any recommendations or ideas?
Thank you for your help!
